APTA Responds to New York Times Article

APTA President R. Scott Ward, PT, PhD, has crafted a letter to the editor of the New York Times in response to the January 6 article "Treat Me, but No Tricks Please," which has sparked a firestorm of debate and opinion. Some physical therapists are pleased that the notion of evidence-based practice is out there, front and center. Other PTs feel the article unfairly focuses on the lack of evidence for certain modalities and does not address the unique clinical knowledge and skills of a physical therapist. On a positive note, the piece has spurred thoughtful and healthy discussion among our members. And, it has inspired some incredibly positive patient testimonials on behalf of physical therapists. If you haven’t checked out the comments on the Times Web site, take a moment to read them.

Read more thoughts from Ward on the article and post your comments on evidence-based practice at APTA's Moving Forward blog.
